Bollywood lovers the world over witnessed the darkest of days as they lost their biggest female screen star of her generation - Sridevi Kapoor, aged 54 and aunt of Sonam Kapoor. Millions of people came together to bid farewell to the evergreen queen of the silver screen, whose career spanned over 50 years and 300 movies. But along with her family, one person felt the iconic fashionista's loss particularly hard: Manish Malhotra.
The 'special relationship' between King of Fashion Manish Malhotra andSridevi's began at the beginning of his career in the 1990's. She wore Manish whilst he was still rising, perhaps this is why they became firm friends, celebrating many personal occasions together, posting a series of cute selfies with Manish declaring, "
I will never able to get over this loss.” We celebrate this most unique of love stories between a master and his muse, and one whose legacy will live on as Manish just announced that he'll archive all of Sridevi's outfits for her daughters Jhanvi and Khushi.
Here are some of her iconic fashion moments, designed by Manish Malhotra.
THE ITEM SAREE:
From the chiffon sarees of "Chandni'' to the imagery of Sri dancing sensuously in "Mr.India" this icon mastered the knack of effortlessly pulling off the nine-yard and sent her favourite Designers into a tail spin.
The veteran actor made an elegant choice for a sangeet function she recently attended. The actor chose a vibrant salmon and cherry red saree teamed with a soft salmon blouse, of course by Manish. The number was a simple piece with a heavily embellished pallu.

THE GLITTERING GOWN:
Being a well traveled woman of the world, Sri was no stranger to figure hugging gowns with elegant cuts and that was the perfect canvas to combine with the Indian craftsmanship of Manish Malhotra.

Sridevi was a big fan of the luxury feel and look of velvet, even before it became a fashion trend.
Sridevi stepped out in yet another Manish Malhotra outfit. The actor looked classic in a back and gold brocade lehenga choli. The simple choli featured brocade sleeves that perfectly complimented the heavy lehenga skirt.

She wore a cobalt blue and black color block saree with real zari tilla embroidery over it. The saree was teamed with a velvet blouse.
The iconic fashionista has always favoured ivory and pastel tones as a perfect complement to her complexion.
Here she is in a kurta and skirt set from her close friend’s collection. The full sleeved kurta featured minimal floral embroidery complimenting the heavy lehenga skirt. The gota work on the skirt and the dupatta elevated the subtle colour scheme of her ensemble.
One of the last outfits the actor was seen in was this green and pink embellished Manish creation, matching with her daughter Khushi for the Mohit Marwah wedding where Sri passed. This could be argued to be Manish Malhotra's most fitting swan song to the beautiful friendship that he and Sridevi cultivated and enjoyed and one that world will not forget.
