Designers Dhruv Kapoor, Rara Avis and Ritu Kumar played with the versatility of metallics on the runway this season. Whether it was Dhruv Kapoor’s metallic corsets or sequined pinafores, or Ritu Kumar’s metallic, embroidered skirts, metallics shimmied and flowed this season.
Floral, Romantic Prints
Sweet, sultry, summery and feminine: florals made their mark on the audience as a number of designers played with the trend this season. Anita Dongre’s bridal collection contained gentle pastel hues, with dazzling wedding creations that wowed prospective brides and grooms. Saaksha Bhat and Kinnari Kamat’s collection spun an interesting spin with abstract, floral designs.
This season saw a range of stripes, appearing bold and beautiful on the runway through varied silhouettes. Making strong fashion statements with pole, pin and classic varieties, the sophistication that stripes brought in is sure to inspire an everyday-polished fashion statement. The Northeast Mojo show saw a great deal of stripes with Sonam Dubal’s Kuzu collection and Jenjum Gadi incorporating stripes in their classy ensembles.
Designers like Dhruv Kapoor, GoCoop and Jenjum Gadi presented layered clothing in their collections in a tasteful, well-thought out manner that gave their clothing an edge. From Dhruv Kapoor’s layers over a printed dress to Jenjum Gadi’s overcoat in the Northeast collection, layers proved to be an interesting trend that will set your outfit apart.
Belting Out Fashion
Belts were a cherished accessory this season. The season saw belts over long dresses & tops that were complemented classic outdoorsy outfits, accentuating the flow of simple pieces. Clever use of belts elevated style in designers - Shantanu and Nikhil, Nishka Lulla and Tahweave’s fashion wear.
Adding a flair to trendy dresses and tops, bubble sleeves dominated the ramp this season. Giving dresses a breezy guise on the ramp, these bubble sleeves added a zing and raised the style quotient a notch higher for collections of Amrich, Rara Avis and Ritu Kumar.
Designers Faguni and Shane Peacock and Shweta Kapur experimented with faux-feathers in their attire to up the ante this season. Shweta Kapur’s use of faux-feathers on a skirt’s waistline and Falguni and Shane’s subtle feather appearances in outfits and Shriya Som’s feathery gown made the audience stop and stare.
