We’re still reeling from all the epic Bollywood weddings we witnessed in 2018. From Sonam Kapoor to Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, all our favourite leading ladies tied the knot and gave us enough wedding inspiration to last a lifetime! It’s safe to say that each and every one of these women looked beyond beautiful on their big days and to be honest, they had quite a lot in common.
So if you’re looking to plan a big Bollywood style wedding soon, here’s a step by step guide of what you need to do to create that magic (without the pricetag!)
LONG DISTANCE: SHORT GUEST LIST
It all started with Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli’s secret destination wedding at the end of 2017. There was no prior notice (to the world at least). We just woke up one morning to a stream of images from Italy featuring Anushka and Virat, now Mrs. & Mr. Kohli. And with the long distance wedding, was a super tiny guest list to make any Aunty blush!
Since Bollywood weddings can get a bit highly overcrowded, all the celebrities save for Sonam decided to take the wedding party abroad. This immediately cuts down your numbers and helps keep the whole thing more intimate. Of course, they all made up for it with a big bash for the industry upon their return.
MEHENDHI KICKS OFF THE MARATHON
If you want to walk in the steps of these brides, every bride-to-be needs a string of events, starting the celebrations with a joyful mehendi as the first function. Both Anushka and Priyanka kept their outfits super bright and colourful. Alternatively, you could take the Deepika and Sonam route and stick to tones of beige and pink.
BIG DESIGNER LEHENGA
Despite all the brides being super daring and on-trend all the world around, each and every one of them kept it refreshingly traditional on their big day. All our Bolly brides opted for Sabyasachi and Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla, the common designers at all four weddings and the wedding outfits featured heavy lehengas with dupattas to match.

In terms of jewellery all the brides went heavy on the actual big day, with one maang-tikka bigger than the next, with Deepika almost recreating her look as Rani Padmini in hit film Padmaavat.

A BIG AFTER PARTY:
With the pheras and formality out of the way, a larger reception and after-parties was where we saw everyone let loose (even with the clothes) and really celebrate their nuptials. Ranveer and Deepika opted for a neon rave theme for one of their functions while Priyanka and Nick took the custom Dior and tuxedo route and Sonam and Anand Anhuja opting for semi-formal chevron prints and sneakers even!

Remember to keep the sacred functions intimate. Close family and friends is all you need for your big day. If you’re really looking to keep it small, a destination wedding is always a good idea. But don’t forget to have fun and go all-out, guns blazing for the functions after your wedding. That’s when all the stressful parts are over and you can really have a great time…and make memories that last a lifetime!
