Cannes 2018: Drool Over

As it turns out, May is a hot month for fashion events. After the MET Gala and Sonam Kapoor’s wedding, the next big thing on our watch-list was the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. While celebrities from all over the world assembled on the French Riviera, our eyes were solely on the Bollywood beauties representing the homeland. This year, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai weren’t the only big names spotted on the carpet. Kangana Ranaut made a pretty big splash, as did Huma Qureshi.  You'd to have been living under a rock if you didn’t spot their glamorous outfits on social media. And incase you missed any, here’s a quick recap straight from France.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Let's start with the Queen of Cannes, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Both, her Rami Kaidi and Michael Cinco gowns were well received but the one thing we couldn’t get over was her experimental hair do at the festival.

Sonam Kapoor

Next up on our list has to be the newest ‘Mrs’ in Bollywood. We always expect a lot from Sonam Kapoor when she’s at Cannes and as usual, she didn’t disappoint. Even without her sister, Rhea Kapoor in tow, Sonam took everyone’s breath away in a lehenga-inspired Ralph & Russo creation and an apt for summer Vera Wang number.

Special props go to her for wearing her husband’s brand, Bhane for a press shoot at the event.

Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone had so many changes at the festival; it was hard to keep up! She started off with a Zuhair Murad number; a style we’ve definitely seen before, but quickly switched to a stylish, ultra violet suit from MAO. It didn’t end there. A slinky Alberta Ferretti gown was followed up with the most voluminous and bright Ashi Studio ensemble – and we’re pretty sure it left heads turning with every step she took. Her reign at Cannes ended in a black Marcell Von Berlin outfit that we didn’t love, but after that magenta look, not a lot could make a statement, right?

Kangana Ranaut

A new and surprising entrant this year was Kangana Ranaut. Not only did she take the festival by the b*lls, she owned every outfit she wore like nobody’s business. She began with a Sabyasachi sari and quickly moved on to, yes you guessed it, Zuhair Murad. Just when we thought she was going to play it safe, she pulled out the big guns in the sparkliest jumpsuit from Nedo By Nedret Taciroglu.

While the rest of the crowd kept it safe for the smaller parties through the week, Kangana definitely did not rein it in. She went from a bright red Nanushka dress to a barely there bikini top and yet another shimmering number from Halpern like it was no big deal!

Huma Qureshi

And finally, we come to Huma Qureshi. Did she bring her A-game to Cannes? Yes. Did she blow our minds? Hell yes! Huma Qureshi and her stylist deserve an applause because everything, from her custom Nikhil Thampi number and Manish Malhotra ensemble to another custom Falguni and Shane Peacock jumpsuit and Elio Abou Fayssal set, was absolutely stunning!
